A routine police encounter in a quiet Florida neighborhood escalated rapidly Wednesday afternoon when two women attempted to flee officers, only to be apprehended moments later in what authorities described as a brief but chaotic pursuit.
According to body-worn camera footage released by police, the incident unfolded shortly before 2 p.m. on a residential street lined with mature trees and low-rise apartment buildings. Officers were responding to a call when they encountered the two women, whose behavior reportedly raised immediate concern.
As officers issued verbal commands, the women suddenly ran in opposite directions, prompting a foot pursuit. The body camera footage shows officers repeatedly ordering the suspects to stop and lie on the ground, commands that went unheeded for several seconds.
The chase was short-lived.
One of the women stumbled near the edge of the roadway, while the other was quickly cornered near a parked vehicle. Officers moved in and detained both individuals without the use of serious force. In the footage, an officer can be heard clearly instructing one suspect to “roll over on your stomach” as she was placed into custody.
No officers were injured during the incident. One of the women sustained minor scrapes and was evaluated at the scene. Authorities did not immediately release the reasons for the initial police contact, though officials confirmed that charges related to resisting arrest and fleeing law enforcement are pending.
Residents in the area said they were surprised by the sudden commotion.
“It’s usually very quiet around here,” said a neighbor who asked not to be identified. “Next thing we knew, there were police running down the street.”
