Las Vegas Dad Cradles Toddler Before Shooting Him in Head, Cops Say
A 3-year-old boy is dead after his father allegedly shot him point-blank during a chaotic standoff with police in Las Vegas early this month.
It all went down just after 1 a.m. on February 3rd at a Las Vegas apartment complex. Raneka Pate dialed 911, telling dispatchers her son’s dad, 28-year-old Quinton Baker, was out of control and trying to take their little boy, Kentre Baker.
“He’s not in his right mind,” Pate said in the call, according to audio released by police. She claimed Baker had beaten her and was threatening to kill both her and the child.
Another witness reported to 911 that Baker stormed out of the apartment with Kentre and a gun, then fired shots at a white BMW as Pate and her friend tried to drive away.
Baker went back inside with the boy. Pate called 911 again, saying he was holding the kid hostage and warning that if cops showed up, he’d “blow the child’s brains out” and then take his own life.
When officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department rolled up, Baker stepped out onto the walkway, cradling Kentre in his arms. Body camera footage shows him pointing a gun right at the boy’s chest.
Officers yelled commands for him to drop the weapon and surrender. Baker didn’t. Instead, he fired…hitting Kentre in the head.

At the same time, the officers opened fire, striking Baker multiple times. He died at the scene.
The boys mother actually blames police for her sons death and obtained a lawyer. “I told police officers that the person was very agitated, and that if they could do anything to calm or deescalate the situation, without any lethal force because he did have my son in his possession,”
