A DUI investigation took an unexpected twist when a police officer accused a suspected drunk driver of “cheating” during field sobriety tests conducted inside a sheriff’s office, according to newly released body camera footage.
The video shows the woman being instructed through a series of standardized tests meant to evaluate balance, coordination, and focus. At one point, the officer stopped the process, accusing her of deliberately trying to manipulate the results.
Authorities said the suspect had been arrested earlier for suspected impaired driving and was brought to the office for formal evaluation. Police reported that she exhibited slurred speech, unsteady movement, and a strong odor of alcohol.
“This kind of behavior doesn’t change the outcome,” a department spokesperson said. “Sobriety tests are designed to be fair and consistent, but when someone attempts to cheat, it only confirms the level of impairment.”
The woman was booked on DUI charges and is awaiting court proceedings. Officials stressed that the incident highlights the lengths some suspects go to in avoiding accountability, but noted that body camera evidence helps ensure transparency in such cases.
