It was chaos at Parramatta Station during the busy afternoon rush when panic broke out among commuters.
Witnesses say a man, visibly agitated and shouting incoherently, was seen walking through the station holding a large meat cleaver. Dozens of passengers ran for cover as station security immediately called police.
Within minutes, officers arrived and confronted the suspect on the platform. Despite repeated commands to drop the weapon, the man refused, waving the cleaver erratically as terrified bystanders screamed.
That’s when a group of police officers moved in — timing their approach perfectly. As one officer distracted him, another tackled the suspect to the ground in a split-second takedown that was caught on video by commuters.
The man was quickly disarmed and handcuffed. Paramedics arrived soon after to assess him for injuries, while police cleared the area.
Authorities have not yet released the suspect’s name but confirmed he was taken into custody for questioning and will undergo a mental health evaluation.
Thanks to the swift action and bravery of the officers, no one was injured in what could have been a much worse situation.
