A 16-year-old single mother was acquitted by a judge for shooting and killing an intruder to protect her child.

It was just past midnight when a young single mother, barely 16 years old, woke to the sound of breaking glass. Her small home—where she lived alone with her 2-year-old baby—was supposed to be a place of safety. But that night, everything changed.

According to reports, the teen mother had recently been the target of threats from a local man who had been stalking her. Terrified but determined to protect her child, she had kept a small handgun—registered to a family member—locked in a drawer by her bed.

When the intruder forced his way inside, shouting and searching through the dark, she grabbed her baby and hid in the corner of the room. But when the man burst through the door, she had only seconds to act. She fired once. The intruder collapsed instantly.

When police arrived, they found the young mother sobbing, clutching her crying child. She immediately confessed, saying she only wanted to protect her baby.

After months of legal battles, the judge ruled her actions were justified—self-defense and defense of her child. The courtroom was silent as the verdict was read: Not guilty.

Now, the teen says she hopes her story will remind others that fear doesn’t mean weakness—and that a mother’s instinct to protect her child is stronger than anything else.
