In a shocking scene outside a Heber City shopping center, police were called after bystanders noticed a young child left alone inside a locked vehicle under the blazing sun.
When officers arrived, bodycam footage shows them rushing to the car as the child cried helplessly inside. The temperature inside the vehicle had soared well above 100 degrees, turning it into a dangerous oven.
Officers quickly smashed the window and pulled the child to safety. Paramedics on scene confirmed the child was severely overheated but expected to recover.
The child’s mother was later located inside a nearby store. According to authorities, she had been gone for an extended period while her child sat in the car. She was immediately arrested and charged with child endangerment.
Police are using this case to warn parents of the deadly dangers of leaving children in cars, even for a few minutes. “This could have been a tragedy,” one officer said.
The dramatic rescue has since gone viral online, with thousands of viewers praising the officers’ quick action.
